Carbon3 is now Era4

Our ambition is to deliver resilient, lower-carbon, high-performance AI infrastructure for the UK’s next industrial era. Today marks a significant milestone in that journey as we align our name and identity with that ambition.

AI has the potential to transform the UK economy, super-charging advanced manufacturing and life sciences and enhancing financial services and public sector productivity. But that transformation depends on infrastructure: secure, high-performance AI compute capacity that is available across the country, now.

Using the world’s leading AI hardware, we are building a network of modular data centres, across the UK, to supply low-latency compute to businesses nationwide. In parallel, we are developing purpose-built hyperscale sites to provide the world-class capacity global cloud providers and AI leaders require. And as a UK company keeping data and AI workloads onshore, we will be ensuring that our customers retain control.

But it isn’t just about building data centres for businesses; we want to unlock regeneration in communities.

We own over 40 sites around the UK. Many of them are located near waste management plants, some of them are part of larger legacy industrial estates which are currently underutilised. We want our data centres to give them a new lease of life. Whether it’s supporting district heating networks for local housing, new renewable-powered leisure facilities, or working alongside the local community and government to create new jobs and opportunities, we want our data centres to contribute to the communities around them. 

That also means being conscious of the impacts data centres can have. We want to offer our customers a lower-carbon route to scaling their AI use and minimise the water consumed.

Our new name reflects this broader mission and represents the horizon we are building towards: AI infrastructure that is fast and resilient, scalable and secure, and rooted in the communities around us.

Nothing about our core strategy or team changes with this rebrand. What changes is how clearly our name now reflects the scale of the responsibility and opportunity ahead.

We believe the UK has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to capitalise on the benefits of AI. Era4 is building the infrastructure that makes that possible.
