Our Mission

Regenerate the Future

The Mill is Era4โ€™s newest flagship Digital Campus, a former Welsh steel mill spanning 1.6km. The Mill is being reborn into a sovereign UK AI gigafactory using the Era4 blueprint to provide British AI for British prosperity.

Location

Welcome to the Mill

A Sleeping Giant, Reborn.

TEchnology

Where cutting edge Compute infrastructure meets UK Industry

The Mill has a planned Gigawatt of available power, and enough space to house an equivalent of up to 400,000 NVIDIA VR200 GPUs.

Using leading NVIDIA reference architectures and working with industry-leading technology partners, we are pioneering efficient, scalable compute to deliver the sovereign promise of UK AI. With low-latency fibre and next generation cooling systems, we are building the technological platform to deliver Newport and UK AI ambitions at speed.

The digital campus

Investing in Newport

The Mill is our flagship digital campus, and more than just a data centre. It champions the community.

01

Technical College for Local Skills

We are actively reinforcing future talent pipelines for AI and digital skills through partnerships, apprenticeships and educational resources. Our technical college will directly support local communities to realise the potential of the fourth industrial revolution.

02

Sports & Leisure Facility

We are using national and international investment in the UK's AI future to bring social infrastructure to local communities.

Resources

Stewarding Resources At The Mill

One of our guiding principles at Era4 is the recognition that resources are finite, and we treat them as such. By taking on the role of stewards, we are committed to finding ways where the footprint of our projects is as low as it can be.

Energy Usage

Blending the national grid with on-site power generation.

Using renewable sources such as wind and solar to build towards a cleaner, more resilient AI compute supply.

At peak build out, this site is projected to achieve one Gigawatt of power - a scale few sites in the UK can match.

Water Usage

The technologies we are employing are fundamentally different from older, more wasteful ways of using water.

By using a closed water loop, The Mill minimises the overall need for water.

We are offering transparency of our consumed resources by delivering independently verified data, reinforcing our position as stewards of finite natural resources.

Sovereignty

British AI for British Prosperity

The fourth industrial revolution shouldnโ€™t come at the cost of resilience, local communities or finite resources.

We are generating an equitable domestic AI market that drives national prosperity by changing how UK AI infrastructure gets built.

Sovereignty is often associated with data and intellectual property. But the UK should also ensure it is able to capture the full economic value of the AI economy by building those assets in Britain.

Working in partnership with central and local authorities, we are creating a new blueprint to deliver on the promise of British AI.

Believing that together, we grow.

Sovereignty

British AI for British Prosperity

The fourth industrial revolution shouldnโ€™t come at the cost of resiliency, local communities or finite resources.

We are generating an equitable domestic AI market that drives national prosperity by changing how UK AI infrastructure gets built.

By reforging our physical past to power an independent and resilient AI future, the UK's IP, infrastructure and data remains on sovereign soil - enriching local economies, communities and industry.

Working in partnership with central and local authorities, weโ€™re creating a new blueprint to deliver the promise of UK AI.

Believing that together, we grow.
