Press release:

Civo and Era4 launch UK’s first fully sovereign AI stack at London Tech Week to power national AI growth

Today at London Tech Week, Civo and Era4 announced the launch of a UK-sovereign, full-stack AI partnership. The two UK-based companies are combining their joint expertise to build a highly optimised AI ecosystem built specifically for the nation’s sovereignty goals.

The collaboration is a direct response to the UK Government’s strategic push to secure domestic AI capacity. It offers a completely autonomous alternative to foreign tech hyperscalers and a breakaway from rigid reseller and software-licensing models.

The technical alliance will see Civo deploy its cloud architecture inside Era4’s uniquely sustainable, secure data centre network. Era4 generates its own lower-carbon power, currently around 50MW across its estate, with a clear pathway to over 500MW of hybrid power.

Concurrently, Era4 will be able to integrate Civo’s enterprise cloud orchestration software, CivoStack, directly onto its dedicated, high-performance AI infrastructure. The result will mean that customers can benefit from a fully Kubernetes-enabled, cloud-native AI platform.

Developers, regional AI accelerators, and government entities will be able to use this architecture to easily set up and manage advanced AI clusters. It will also automate large language model (LLM) workflows and speed up the networks needed to handle massive AI tasks.

Mark Boost, CEO a Civo said:

"Sovereignty without developer accessibility is a bottleneck, and accessibility without green power is unsustainable. By deploying Civo's cloud architecture natively inside Era4's localised data centres, we are giving the UK Sovereign AI Fund, regional accelerators, and enterprise innovators exactly what they’ve been waiting for: a true, top-tier alternative to the US hyperscalers that runs entirely on automated, domestic, and sustainable foundations."

Powering the UK AI Fund and regional growth

In April, the UK Government established a £500 million venture capital fund to back homegrown AI founders, drive growth and create jobs across the UK.

This alliance positions Civo and Era4 as the definitive platform to underpin that investment. The entire stack is strictly hosted on UK-governed land, with UK-based control planes. This will protect the country’s data integrity, which is of strategic national importance. By prioritising compliance-first architecture, highly regulated sectors will be able to confidently fast-track their AI development while meeting the highest standards of data sovereignty.

The partnership was also formed with the express purpose of supporting UK organisations such as universities, tech startups and localised ecosystems. By bringing high-density AI clusters closer to regional growth zones through a distributed network model, the partnership is uniquely optimised to do so.

These regional AI accelerators will be able to access tier-one computational power without the complexity of traditional hardware onboarding.

Karl Havard, Chief Commercial Officer at Era4 said:

"The UK desperately needs to increase its sovereign AI infrastructure footprint. We are now deploying a solution the UK can truly call its own. The partnership enables the deployment of CivoStack on our lower-carbon network of data centres, transforming raw silicon into an instantly consumable, Kubernetes-enabled powerhouse. This isn't a reseller arrangement; it’s two British champions co-building the future of sustainable national infrastructure."

Technical edge: Kubernetes-enabled NVIDIA HGX B300 Infrastructure

This system has been built to meet the technical standards of hardware leaders like NVIDIA. It pairs their top-tier HGX B300 AI chips with smart cloud management software.

Instead of locking users into rigid, hard-to-change servers, the CivoStack software simplifies how the hardware works. This gives customers instant room to grow and lets multiple teams share resources safely. Developers will now be able to easily manage everything using Kubernetes API support tools.

UK grid alternative for real sustainability

The collaboration leverages Era4's unique energy-generation capability. The infrastructure company’s mission is to transform industrial brownfield and legacy sites, utilising co-located landfill gas conversion and solar

This addresses the severe power and environmental grid constraints of modern AI by providing a resilient, high-performance, lower-carbon AI alternative.

Lord Clement-Jones, Liberal Democrat Lords Spokesperson for Science, Innovation and Technology said:

“This is exactly the kind of partnership the Sovereign AI Fund should be able to catalyse. Two UK-incorporated companies building the infrastructure backbone that could finally give British start-ups, researchers, and public sector bodies a genuine alternative to foreign hyperscalers. Without domestic infrastructure like this, sovereign AI risks remaining a slogan without substance. Partnerships like this one are how you turn the ambition of being an AI maker, not an AI taker, into reality.”
